Advanced Veterinary Neurology in Rock Hill

Neurological conditions can involve the brain, spinal cord, nerves or muscles. Determining the cause often requires a combination of a detailed neurological examination and advanced diagnostic testing.

Our goal is to identify the location and cause of the neurological problem and determine the most appropriate treatment approach for each individual patient.

Depending on the condition, treatment may involve medical management, advanced imaging, surgery, rehabilitation recommendations or continued monitoring in collaboration with the patient’s primary veterinarian.

Advanced Diagnostic Imaging

Advanced imaging plays an important role in diagnosing many neurological and spinal conditions.

Carolina Veterinary Specialists – Rock Hill offers access to advanced diagnostic imaging, including:

  • MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging

MRI provides detailed images of the brain, spinal cord and surrounding soft tissues and can be particularly valuable when evaluating many neurological disorders.

  • CT – Computed Tomography

CT provides detailed cross-sectional images and can be useful in evaluating the spine, bones and other structures associated with neurological disease or trauma.

Dr. Bergman uses the findings from the neurological examination and diagnostic imaging to develop an individualized diagnostic and treatment plan.

When Should a Pet See a Veterinary Neurologist?

Neurological problems can present in many different ways. A veterinary neurologist may be recommended when a dog or cat experiences symptoms such as:

  • Weakness or difficulty walking
  • Sudden inability to stand or use the legs
  • Back or neck pain
  • Paralysis or partial paralysis
  • Seizures
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Abnormal gait
  • Tremors or unusual movements
  • Spinal trauma or injury
  • Changes in neurological function
  • Suspected intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)
  • Other complex neurological symptoms
